Guinness World Records Submission #6
First High School Football Webcast
Event Overview
Building on earlier successful webcasts, Michael Lee Goetz, Sr. took the same internet tools to his old high school rivalry game between Newman Smith and R.L. Turner at Standridge Stadium in 1997. With permission from the school district, the crew set up in the press box. Announcers Craig Vaught and Randy Edwards—his high school friends—called the game live from the booth while additional cameras moved around the stadium to capture shots for later editing.
A live webcast of the game was successfully launched, and early viewers saw the kickoff and initial action live over the internet. As the night went on, technical limitations and on-site issues forced the live stream to end early. From that point forward, the crew focused on recording the rest of the game on tape, with the understanding from the outset that a full edited highlight video would be uploaded to You-On-Tv.com after the game.
